textur #4
Audiovisual
exploration combining phonography and photography, 2009
textur
is a series of audiovisual works by Bernhard Gal,
to be presented in installations or live performances. |
textur #4 is based on images of power lines from Oman, which serve as a graphic score for electricity sounds fluctuating between 50-60Hz. All images were photographed at the Green Mountain (Jebel Akhdar) in Oman and show one to six wires, in front of an infinitely blue Omani sky. Similar to graphic scores in music, each of these lines gets interpreted as a frequency and time envelope. Thinner lines result in higher octaves, brighter lines in brighter sound colour. Through overlaps on several, parallely occuring photo layers, a continuous sound- and image composition is created. Sound progressions, pulsations and interferences can be partially tracked on the visual layer, although sometimes they dissolve within the complexity of sound clusters. As an exclusive acoustic source material served the recording of a 50 Hertz signal, which also is the power frequency of the European electricity network. textur #4 DVD player (installation version) / audio computer (performance), video projector, audio system FP: Narodno pozoriste RS, Banja Luka, as part of the project Vortex in April 2009. textur #4 is featured in Gal's book & DVD video Zwischenbrücken, edition spce | Gromoga, Austria 2015. textur - overview ..... still images from textur #4 ..... video excerpt (Vimeo) |
